How Do I Develop Collaboration in the Science Classroom?
HOW DO ROLES FACILITATE COLLABORATIVE LEARNING?
Materials Needed:
The Great Solar System Rescue or The Great Ocean Rescue, by Tom Snyder Productions
A laserdisc player with a monitor or a computer with a CD-ROM player (depending upon the version of The Great Solar System Rescue or The Great Ocean Rescue- both are available in either laserdisc or CD format)
A computer with a cable connection to a laserdisc player (optional with the laserdisc version)

Complete one lesson from either The Great Solar System Rescue or The Great Ocean Rescue.

After you have completed the lesson, analyze how each person's role contributed to the group's success in solving the mystery presented in the activity. Could the mystery have been solved effectively without one of the roles? Explain your views.

How did having a particular role contribute to your achievement, social skills, and self-esteem? How do you think the role would affect students engaging in the activity?

Record your ideas in your portfolio.
