Equiano's Travels: The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano or Gustavus Vassa the African is one of more than 6,000 slave narratives that, in time, would appear as a part of the record of the slavery practiced by the European colonists and in sections of the United States. Like Frederick Douglass's Narrative, Equiano's autobiography is exceptional for its clarity of style and its depth of development, tracing his capture and enslavement, his conversion to Christianity, and his transformed life as a free man.
