Models and Decision Support
Chapter SummaryManagers make many different decisions. Every business discipline builds models to help
people analyze problems and make decisions. Some models are straightforward; others are
complex. Some are described by statements subject to interpretation; others are defined by
mathematical formula. Businesses use models to improve their processes, evaluate choices,
and forecast the future. Management information systems can help managers collect data to drive the models.
Software tools help managers design and evaluate models. Word processor and graphics
software are used to create the final reports. Decision support systems combine elements of
these three tools to make it easier for managers to evaluate options, make decisions, and persuade
others to accept the decision. |
