Robert J. Brooker (Ph.D., Yale University) is a Professor in the Department of
Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development at the University of Minnesota, Twin
Cities. He received his B.A. in Biology at Wittenberg University in 1978. At
Harvard, he studied the lactose permease, the product of the lacY gene of the lac
operon. He continues this work at the University of Minnesota, where he has
an active research lab composed of undergraduates, Ph.D. students, post-doctoral
fellows, and laboratory technicians. Dr. Brooker’s laboratory also investigates
the structure, function, and regulation of iron transporters found in bacteria,
C. elegans, and mammals.
At the University of Minnesota, Dr. Brooker teaches undergraduate courses
in biology, genetics, and cell biology. He also teaches students at the graduate
level and greatly enjoys the more informal method of discussing research papers
in class.
