What's New
Throughout the review process, we received valuable input from instructors and students alike. As a result, we have made a number of changes tin the Fifth Edition without altering the basic concept and approach of Deux mondes.
Many Activités and readings have been updated to reflect changes in the cultures of the French-speaking world.
Chapter 8, Parlons de la Terre!, has been revised to reflect the strong interest in environmental issues among Francophone people in Europe and, indeed, people throughout the world.
Based on useful feedback from reviewers, the readings have been extensively revised to highlight social and cultural changes throughout the French and Francophone world. New readings in Chapters 7, 8, 9, and 11 also provide a contemporary perspective and add a cultural context for language learning.
A new cultural feature, Escales francophones, appears after Chapters 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12. This feature integrates new cultural video footage shot throughout the Francophone world—Paris, France; Quebec City, Canada; Dakar, Senegal; Brussels, Belgium; and Fort-de-France, Martinique. With narration appropriate to students’ comprehension level, these segments take students through “a day in the life” of each city. Within the textbook, new readings provide more information on each of these French-speaking areas, introducing students to social, historical, geographical, and cultural topics of interest.
A new text-specific Online Learning Center available at www.mhhe.com/deuxmondes5 offers a variety of resources for both instructors and students. The website includes daily French news feeds, self correcting grammar, as well as task-based web activities related to the themes introduced in each chapter.
A new Online Workbook/Laboratory Manual, developed in collaboration with Quia ™, includes a grade reporting feature, an online audio program, and interactive activities.
