The history of education is a story of people and their efforts to shape schools. Individuals have formed today's schools by deciding who will be allowed to attend, what will be taught, and what new and different approaches will be used. In this activity, we will concentrate on this last piece, "educational firsts." Try your hand at identifying which of these statements about educational firsts is true, and we will tell you how you did when you complete the task. Some of these items are in your textbook, while others are not. Try your hand at answering these educational firsts, whether from your book -- or as an example of your fine intuitive abilities. (By the way, when you finish this activity, you may want to click on "Educational Challenge." Here students are invited to submit their own "firsts." Read these to learn more, and we invite you to submit your own for posting.)
