Assistive technologies  Equipment that increases, maintains, or improves the capabilities of individuals with disabilities.
Discover switch  An "intelligent" switch that lets people with physical disabilities use a variety of software programs that feature single-switch scanning.
Inclusion  Education of students with disabilities with their peers who do not have disabilities.
Mainstreaming  Partial and full-time programs that educate students with disabilities with their non-disabled peers.
Refreshable Braille display  A device that is added to a computer system to translate text on the screen into Braille.
Speech synthesizer  An output device that generates sound. This chip gives the computer the ability to search for words and their pronunciations in a database.
Sticky keys  Certain keys that lock in place—allowing a student with a disability to press combination key strokes without pressing keys simultaneously.
Touch-free switch  An input device that lets students trigger a mouse click without applying any pressure.
Touch screen  A display that has a pressure-sensitive panel mounted in the front. The user makes choices by touching the screen in the correct location.
Voice recognition  A system that converts the spoken word into binary patterns that are computer recognizable; it understands human speech.
