This chapter begins with an historical overview of spreadsheets. It defines the terms spreadsheet, integrated software, cell, windowing, macro, mail merge, and logical functions. Basic features and functions of spreadsheets and integrated programs are described. A checklist is given for evaluation of different spreadsheet software based on standard criteria. A repertoire of spreadsheet activities for the classroom are presented, as well as useful Internet sites on spreadsheet information, tutorials, tips, and discussion forums.
