  1. Peanuts are fruits that develop underground. The stems bend toward the ground and the flowers push into the soil like roots. What steps in reproduction would you examine to test the hypothesis?

  2. You have discovered an unusual lettuce variant with an orange leaf. Realizing the commercial potential of such a plant, you would like to propagate it. However, by the time you have discovered this plant, the growing season is almost over and the flowers are withered and the seeds gone. How would you propagate this plant? Why might it be beneficial to cross the propagated plant with green-leaf lettuce?
