Feature Summary
New Features:
Misstroke Analysis and Prescription (MAP). MAP has been redesigned for easier
use. This unique prescriptive feature helps students improve speed and accuracy
on the keyboard. MAP is a highly sophisticated and individualized error analysis
and remediation software program that teaches students not only how to recognize
errors but how to fix them as well. MAP instantly analyzes a student's individual
skill level and provides new remedial drills every time it is accessed. MAP
is individualized for EVERY student in the class. If 30 students take a MAP
pretest, MAP will provide 30 different and individualized drill segments for
EACH student in just a matter of seconds!
Powerful Online/Distance Learning capabilities improved. The new software
provides enhanced update procedures for students through a more intuitive
and automated interface allowing students and instructors to easily work both
at home and on campus.
Enhanced Instructor Management and Gradebook. The instructor can adapt the
customizable gradebook to individual classroom needs and specific grading
requirements. Instructor proofreading and the time associated with it is virtually
eliminated. Time spent in Word on a document is precisely
measured and this feature can help teachers use document production time as
a factor in evaluation.
Improved Online Environment. The enhanced Instructor Management Web site
provides more productivity tools for teaching online, such as an online student
component and provides significantly faster access time.
Live software updates. Updates to the student and campus software are available
conveniently by e-mail notification allowing live software updates via the
Web.
Enhanced Student Portfolio. Students can now view their grades in their
portfolio once the instructor software has graded completed exercises.
Enhanced Communication between instructor and student. New enhancements,
including an annotation feature, allow instructors to digitally mark up student
documents.
One space/two space option. Now the software has both sentence spacing options,
which allows instructors to choose whatever format they prefer.
New Student Web Site. The student Web site permits distance-learning students
to access class information, such as course syllabus and instructor contact
information. In addition distance-learning students can download their grades
to import within their GDP software.
Retained Features:
Backward/Forward Software Compatibility. The GDP software works with Word
2003, 2002, and 2000, allowing flexibility for using the software with many
different word processors.
Simple Import/Export Procedures. The procedures for importing/exporting
are easy for students working both at home and campus.
One CD-ROM. All software components are collected on one CD-ROM, providing
students easy navigation and one-click access to a wealth of learning resources.
Skillbuilding Sections. Skillbuilding sections are included in every lesson,
providing users constant refinement of basic skills.
Separate Student Manuals. Separate keep-for-reference word processing manuals
provide guided focus on document processing and help teach and reinforce specific
skills. Word processing instruction begins with Lesson 21.
Reference Manual. A reference manual is included in the text, in the student
manual, and within the software.
Locational Security. Students begin with their fingers on the home row,
go to the unknown key, and return to the home row. This proven method of keyboard
introduction builds comfort and security and allows students to learn the
keyboard faster and more accurately.
Language Arts Skills. Efficient language arts skills are essential in the
development of students' document processing skills. GDP provides this instruction
in every other lesson, beginning with Lesson 21. All language-arts instruction
is compatible with the 10th edition of The Gregg Reference Manual.
Pretest/Practice/Posttest (PPP). Designed to build straight-copy speed and
accuracy through a three-step process that focuses on either speed or accuracy,
depending on the pretest performance.
"Home Lab." Students can easily transfer work they complete on
their home computer to a school's network server where GDP has been installed.
This capability provides a "home lab" for students to gain valuable
lab time to complete their keyboarding assignments.
