Bioassays

Bioassays are a common technique in biology to determine the activity of physiologically active substances. When researchers develop a new physiologically active chemical, such as a pesticide or herbicide, it is sometimes necessary to discover its effects on the organism. By increasing or decreasing the levels of the chemical in the organism, scientists can learn the affect the substance will have on the organism and its potential affects on the environment.
