Venomous Critters

Below is a link to a website created by the Arizona State University College of Pharmacy. The site lists several types of venomous animals, particularly arthropods such as spiders, scorpions, and bees. For each type of animal, a description of their appearance, habitat, and behavior is listed. Also, the site lists symptoms that people may show if they have been bitten or exposed to these animals and possible treatments.

Arthropods typically kill far more people than snakes, sharks, or large land predators. Whereas the larger vertebrates are easy to avoid and will usually try to avoid humans, arthropods are typically small and live in the same areas as humans. Under houses, between walls, and in old closets are perfect places for some of these venomous arthropods to live. Also, only a handful of snakes in North America are poisonous. But, essentially all spiders are venomous, though only a few are willing or capable of biting humans.

Look through the list of venomous arthropods to learn more about the creatures that may be living in your area. Learning how to detect and treat the symptoms of an arthropod bite early could mean the difference between life and death.
