Modern Language Association (MLA) Web Site
This is the official site of the MLA style guide. "MLA style has been widely adopted by schools, academic departments, and instructors for over half a century. The association's guidelines are also used by over 1,100 scholarly and literary journals, newsletters, and magazines and by many university and commercial presses. The MLA's guidelines are followed throughout North America and in Brazil, China, India, Japan, Taiwan, and other countries around the world."

APA Style.org
This is the official site of the American Psychological Association (APA) style guide. "When editors or teachers ask you to write in APA Style, they do not mean writing style. They are referring to the editorial style that many of the social and behavioral sciences have adopted to present written material in the field. . . . Please note that when researchers talk about APA Style, they may be referring to APA's system of citations in text and reference format. If you are unsure, you should clarify with your instructor or editor how they define APA Style."

The American Psychological Association "is committed both to science and to the fair treatment of individuals and groups, ...[and] authors of journal articles are required to avoid writing in a manner that reinforces questionable attitudes and assumptions about people (APA, 1983, p. 43)." The following links were created by the APA as a supplement to their current manual, which offers advice on how to avoid sexist language. "The next edition will contain an expanded section on using language that is free as well of racial or ethnic bias, heterosexism, bias toward people with disabilities, ageism, and other kinds of bias."
