Sara is on vacation in Porto Cervo, one of Sardinia's best resorts on the Emerald Coast. Her host—Dr. Corradini, an architect—has, as many Italians who can afford to do, a second house at the beach. He goes to Sardinia with his family every summer. With his boat, he is able to visit the surrounding islands, and now they are planning a trip to the Maddalena Island and to Caprera, where Garibaldi (the famous revolutionary who fought to unify Italy in the nineteenth century) lived and is now buried. Sara has seen statues of Garibaldi even in the States but does not know much about this "hero of the two worlds" (so named because he fought to free countries in South America as well). This is her chance to find out more about Italian history and to enjoy the wonderful crystalline Sardinian waters. If the weather is nice, they will also sail to Corsica, the French Island not too far from Sardinia.
