Use the globalEDGE™ site
to complete the following exercises:
1. You are currently making a decision concerning
which landlocked and lesser developed country you
will visit for your next overseas trip so you can better
understand the dynamics of international institutions
among developing countries. To assist in this
process, InfoNation is an easy-to-use, two-step database
that allows one to view and compare the most
current statistical data for United Nations member
states. Select the following six countries to facilitate
your decision: Afghanistan, Bhutan, Chad, Lao People’s
Democratic Republic, Lesotho, and Rwanda.
Then, to gain additional insight into the conditions in
each country, select data for the following categories:
Population-Population in 2003; Population-
Largest Urban Agglomeration; Economy-Tourist
Arrivals; Technology-Telephone Lines; Technology-
Television Receivers; and Environment-Water Resources
per Capita. Which countries rank highest and
lowest in each category? Which country would you
choose for your next trip? Given the international regional
organizations discussed in the text, which
regional grouping of nations will you be visiting?
What are your reasons for choosing this country?
Were there other factors that influenced your decision?
If so, what were they?
2. The World Development Indicators (WDI) is the
World Bank’s premier data compilation on development.
Utilize the WDI for the Czech Republic to
gather information on this country. Considering that
your company currently produces an emerging
video game system technology and is planning to
enter this country soon, prepare a short report on
the infrastructure of this country as it applies to your
company’s product.
