Our traveler, Sara, is back to Southern Italy: this time she is visiting Apulia, the region in the "heel" (if we think of Italy's shape as a boot). She is in Taranto, and plans to visit Alberobello and Castel del Monte, two of Apulia's best-known locations. Alberobello is a rustic village whose homes have cone-shaped roofs, while Castel del Monte is one of two remaining castles built by Frederick II in the early thirteenth-century (the other massive one is in Prato, Tuscany). Apulia is also invaded in the summer by tourists looking for splendid and secluded beaches and good weather. Both the Adriatic and Ionian shores of the region have renowned beach resorts and Sara wants to visit them.
