About the Authors



The author team of Simon Bennett, Steve McRobb and Ray Farmer have worked together on editions of this text since 1999, when the first edition was published. Their collaboration combines a wealth of academic experience in teaching and researching in the Information Systems discipline. Their considerable industry experience also ensures a practical understanding of implementing this theory in real organizations.

Simon Bennett is Training Consultant in the Faculty of Technology at De Montfort University, where he provides training in UML, analysis and design, and systems architecture. He is an associate member of the Centre for Computational Intelligence. He has previously held posts as an Enterprise Architect for Celesio AG and as Head of ICT for the Department of Regeneration and Culture at Leicester City Council, and taught as a Principal Lecturer at De Montfort University until 1999. Simon co-authored Schaum’s Outline of UML (2nd edition), also published by McGraw-Hill.

Steve McRobb is a Principal Lecturer in the Department of Informatics at De Montfort University. He has taught object-oriented systems analysis and design for well over a decade and is currently course leader for popular MSc courses in Computing, Information Technology and Information Systems Management. His recent research is mainly in the areas of online privacy and the effects of ICT on power relationships. Steve was formerly Principal Administration Officer at the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Ray Farmer is an Associate Dean in the Faculty of Engineering and Computing at Coventry University. His research interests include information systems analysis and design, service-oriented architecture and pedagogical developments in engineering and computing education. He regularly acts as a consultant on object-oriented analysis and design in the UK and internationally. Ray has previously held various posts in the Department of Information Systems at De Montfort University.
