Learning Objectives

This chapter serves two educational purposes. First, it motivates students to go on to further study. Second, textbooks, by trying to be clear and definite, often give the impression that we have all the answers, and that the student’s job is just to absorb them. Of course, we don’t have all the answers! It is worthwhile to remind students of this once in a while.

Lifelong learning in finance is a worthwhile goal. There are many certification examinations like CFA, CTP, CFM, CFP, CLU, ChFC, etc. and students by successfully completing them will be able to start their career well ahead of others or for those who are already working may be able to get a leap in their career. For example, these certification programs are in the areas of: corporate finance (CFM), Investment analysis and Management (CFA), Personal finance (CFP), Treasury management (CTP), Valuation (CBA), Credit Analysis (CBF), Insurance (CLU), etc.
