Web Quest Lesson Plan


In this unit, students explored the topic of bullies. In this lesson, they will visit a Web site that defines a bully, and why people engage in this behavior. The Web site also gives anecdotal advice from other students, and provides suggestions to put an end to bullying.

Lesson Description

Students will go to the PBS © Web site It’s My Life: Bullies ( They will read through the various sections of the Web site and then answer questions pertaining to what they’ve read.

Instructional Objectives

  1. Students will use the Internet as a source of advice and problem-solving.
  2. Students will activate prior knowledge and connect as they read the Web site content.
  3. Students will answer questions based on what they’ve learned.

Questions and Possible Answers

1. Describe one reason why people bully.
Possible answer: People bully others because they feel bad about themselves and bullying makes them feel like they have power over someone else.

2. List three reasons why people get bullied.
Possible answer: People can become the targets of a bully if they are smaller and weaker than other people, if they have a funny name, or if they show that they get easily upset or anxious.

3. What are the three different kinds of bullying?
Possible answer: The three different kinds of bullying are physical bullying, verbal bullying, and relationship bullying.

4. What advice would you offer someone who is being bullied?
Possible answer: Ignore the bully, don’t show signs that you are upset, or turn the bully’s comments into a joke

5. Name two things you can do to prevent being bullied.
Possible answer: To prevent being bullied, you can act confident, try not to walk alone, and avoid areas where you think bullies will be.

6. What should you do if you see someone being bullied?
Possible answer: If you see someone being bullied, you should speak up. Say something like “Cut it out!” or “How would you feel if someone did that to you?”

7. What advice would you give to a bully who wants to change his or her ways?
Possible answer: You can stop being a bully by apologizing to the people you have bullied in the past, find other ways to boost your self-esteem, or talk to a school counselor about your feelings.

8. If you have been bullied, should you tell an adult?
Answer: Yes.
