5.3 Elder Care

As they age, some elders require more assistance than relatives or friends can provide. When an aged person is no longer able to live independently and his or her family is unable to provide the level of care needed, this gives rise to the prospect of institutional care. In the US, the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA), now called LeadingAge provides both resources for the business of the institution and information for consumers. Navigate to the Consumer section of the website at the top of the home page. Review the titles of articles posted under topics such as planning ahead, how to choose, exploring caregiver issues, paying for care, and finding homes and services.
