medium  The specific tool and material used by an artist, for example, brush and oil paint, chisel and stone.
support  In two-dimensional art, the physical surface (paper, canvas, wall) on which one draws, paints, or otherwise creates art.
vehicle  In wet media, the liquid material in which the coloring agent or pigment is dispersed.
washes  Broad areas of thin, diluted paint or ink that give a transparent or translucent effect.
impasto  The application of paint to a surface in thick, heavy textures, that is, in a pastelike way.
glaze  1. In oil painting, one or more coats of transparent or semitransparent color laid over a dried layer of paint for the purpose of creating subtle and luminous color effects. 2. In ceramics, glasslike coatings baked directly onto the clay that increase the durability and aesthetic range of pottery and sculpture.
sketch  A quick, fragmentary, or generalized drawing that might generate broad ideas for the final work or product.
