Gothic
A style of architecture developed in western Europe between the twelfth and sixteenth centuries. Gothic buildings are characterized by pointed arches, luminous stained glass, and soaring vertical shapes and spaces. The Gothic style is especially evident in the cathedrals of France, England, and Germany, and influenced all the other arts as well.
