About the Authors

Michael L. Keene is professor of English, University of Tennessee, Knoxville. His publications include the revised eight edition of W. Paul Jones's Writing Scientific Papers and Reports (Wm. C. Brown), Effective Professional and Technical Writing (with Harry Bruce and Russel Hirst, for Prentice Hall); and Education in Scientific and Technical Communication ed. (for the Society for Technical Communication). He also has chapters in Teaching Advanced Composition: Why and How (Boynton/Cook), Perspectives on Research and Scholarship in Composition (MLA), Teaching Business, Technical, and Scientific Writing in the Two-Year College (NCTE), Research in Technical Communication (Greenwood), Teaching Audience Analysis and Adaptation (ATTW), and Establishing and Maintaining Interships (ATTW). He has published articles in Dialogue, IEEE Transactions on Professional Communication, Technical Communication, European Journal of Engineering Education, Journal of Advanced Composition, College Enlgish, CEA Critic, Teaching English in the Two-Year College, and ATAC Newsletter.

Katherine H. Adams is professor of English, Loyola University New Orleans. Her past and present professional positions include director of writing across the curriculum at Loyola, editor of the ATAC Newsletter and officer of the Association of Teachers of Advanced Composition, organizer and director of the Smokey Mountain Writing Project, staff member of the Tennessee Governor's School for Writing, and member of the National Faculty. She has published articles and reviews in College Composition and Communication, Rhetoric Society Quarterly, Rhetoric Review, Teaching English in the Two-Year College, Freshman English News, The Writing Instructor, Journal of Teaching Writing, Arizona English Bulletin, Teaching Writing, and other journals. She co-edited a special issue on cultural literacy for The Clearing House. Her book publications include The Accomplished Writer (with John L. Adams, for Prentice Hall), Teaching Advanced Composition: Why and How (with John L. Adams, for Boynton/Cook), and A History of Professional Writing Instruction in American Colleges (SMU Press). She is co-author of Using the Internet, Online Services, and CD-ROMS for Writing Research and Term Papers (Neal-Schuman).
