Good writing uses modifiers correctly. Modifiers are either adjectives (which describe nouns and pronouns) or adverbs (which describe verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs). Modifying phrases are groups of words that modify another word in a sentence. They include prepositional phrases and renaming phrases (appositives). Good writing also uses pronouns correctly. Each pronoun refers to a clear antecedent and agrees in both number (singular or plural) and person (first, second, or third) with that antecedent. In this chapter you will learn how to avoid the following problems: - misplaced modifiers
- dangling modifiers
- nonparallel structure
- unclear pronouns
