Test-Taking Strategies

Chapter Overview

Part I of the GED Language Arts, Writing Test contains very specific types of multiple-choice questions. The best way to succeed on the test is to master the material in the book, but the following strategies for test-taking can also help you improve your score:

  • knowing the common errors (in sentence structure, usage, and mechanics)
  • identifying organization errors (in paragraphing, sentence placement, and topic sentences)
  • understanding the question types (sentence correction, sentence revision, and construction shift)
  • reading the whole passage before you begin answering questions
  • answering all fifty questions (no penalty for guessing)
