Global Connections

Chapter Overview

We live in an interconnected world. Increasingly, the challenges that face us are global challenges, and the solutions will have to be global solutions. Even though modern technology has made our interdependence more obvious to all of us, societies and civilizations have been influenced by the activities and innovations of others since before the beginning of recorded history.

In this chapter you will learn about the global connections that link all of us by studying the following concepts:

  • the spread of civilization
  • the importance of trade
  • war and conquest
  • the age of exploration
  • religions and ideologies
  • globalization
  • addressing worldwide problems
