Ultrasonic imaging of the fetus is an increasingly important part of prenatal care. Could an image of the fetus be produced just as well using sound in the audible range rather than ultrasound? Why is ultrasound used rather than some other imaging technology, such as x-rays? Are there other medical applications of ultrasound?
