Exercise 1

Goal: This activity is designed to help students take information and practice presenting it in the most effective form to communicate these findings to an audience.

Instructions: Your task is to go to the U.S. Census Bureau website <www.census.gov/dmd/www/2khome.htm> and select any category that has been reported on in the last year and has at least 5 different categories of information. After you have made your selection, you need to create a visual aid with this information that could be used for a presentation. You should be prepared to show your visual aid as well as explain why this visual aid is the best way to present this information.

Exercise 2

Goal: This activity is designed to help students take specific information and think about how they can present it to an audience during a presentation that will make sense.

Instructions: Your task is to go the Consumer Reports website <www.consumerreports.org/main/home.jsp> and look at the reviews on passenger cars and sports utility vehicles in the last year. Then create a visual aid that compares passenger cars and SUVs with one another based on reported weaknesses. Choose a visual aid that best represents this comparison.
