About the Authors



Gordon Wardlaw is Associate Professor of Medical Dietetics in the School of Allied Medical Professions at Ohio State University. He received his Ph.D. in Nutrition from Iowa State University, his MPH in Public Health Nutrition, his RD and his BS in Food and Nutrition from the University of California, Berkeley. In addition to conducting research, Dr. Wardlaw teaches a wide range of courses at OSU including Nutrition and Human Metabolism, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Research Application in Dietetics, Advanced Medical Dietetics Nutrition Care Process, Nutrition in Metabolic Imbalance, and Advanced Clinical Practice. He is the recipient of the American Dietetic Association's Mary P. Huddleson Award , is a full member of the American Institute of Nutrition and is certified as a Specialist in Human Nutrition by the American Board of Nutrition.

Jeffrey S. Hampl, PhD, RD teaches coursework in public health nutrition in the Department of Nutrition at Arizona State University. Prior to his university appointment, Dr. Hampl worked as a nutritionist with the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) and as an outpatient dietitian in a major medical center. Dr. Hampl's research, which has been funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the State of Arizona, fouses on the nutritional status of resource-constrained children and their families, and he has published articles in leading nutrition and medical journals. The winner of the 2002 Dannon Award for Excellence in Community Nutrition, Dr. Hampl is a member of the American Dietetic Association, the American Public Health Association, and the American Society for Nutrtional Sciences. He is also a spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association and was lead author for the Association's position paper on disease prevention and health promotion.

Robert DiSilvestro, PhD (biochemistry) is a Professor of Human Nutrition at The Ohio State University. He also has appointments with the Ohio Agricultural Research & Development Center and is a research member of The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center. His teaching responsibilities include two introductory nutrition courses. One is intended to meet general education curriculum requirements and the other is intended for majors in nutrition or other majors with a distinct need for nutrition (e.g. nursing). Dr. DiSilvestro has published numerous peer reviewed research articles, mostly in the areas of trace minerals and antioxidant actions of vitamins and phytochemicals, especially in relation to exercise. Dr. DiSilvestro is a member of the American Society for Nutritional Sciences and the American College of Sports Medicine.
