Polynomials and Exponents

binomial  A polynomial consisting of two terms.
constant  A number that is fixed.
degree of a polynomial  The highest degree of any of the terms of a polynomial.
difference of two squares  An expression of the form a2 - b2.
dividend  The number a in a/b.
divisor  The number b in a/b.
exponent  A value that indicates the number of times a base is used as a factor.
FOIL  first, outer, inner, last
leading coefficient  The coefficient of the first term when a polynomial is written with decreasing exponents.
monomial  A polynomial that has one term.
polynomial  An algebraic expression consisting of one or more terms in which the only allowable exponents are the whole numbers {0, 1, 2, 3, ...}.
quotient  The result of division, or the expression a/b.
scientific notation  A number written in the form a x 10n in which 1 ≤ a < 10 and n is an integer.
sum of two cubes  An expression of the form a3 + b3.
trinomial  A polynomial consisting of three terms.

5x2 - 4x + 3 is a trinomial.
