In General:

3. The number of problems and questions in the EOC was reduced throughout.

4. The overall size of the text was reduced by reorganizing and cutting materials, including many "Connections" and "Closer Look" features that did not appear to be closely related to the reviewers.

5. There are now a total of 25 chapters.

More Specific:

1. Chapters two (motion) and three (patterns of motion) were merged into one chapter named, "Motion," with much of the historical material removed and the chapter is now more relevant to students.

3. Old chapter 9 (new chapter 8), "Atomic Structure" was substantially rewritten with a more student friendly approach to atomic theory.

5. Old chapter 13 (new chapter 10), "Water and Solutions," was substantially rewritten to be more conceptually friendly and relevant to students.

6. Old chapter 14, "Organic Chemistry," was integrated with Biochemistry in a new chapter 18, and this material was substantially rewritten.

7. Old astronomy chapters 16, 17, and 18 were merged into two chapters (12 and 13) with substantially updated materials and less historical materials.

8. Geologic time section was moved from old earth science chapter 20, "The Earth's Surface," and integrated with materials on human evolution and the classification of organism into a new chapter 21, "History of Life on Earth." This material was substantially rewritten to be more conceptually friendly.

9. Old chapter 24, "The Origin and Evolution of Life" is now new chapter 20. Sections on evidence for evolution and misconceptions about evolution were added. The material on taxonomy and human evolution was moved to the new chapter 21, "History of Life on Earth."

10. Old chapter 25, "Ecology and Environment," was changed substantially with new illustrations and the addition of material on aquatic ecosystems. Structural changes were made to save space. It is now chapter 22.
