Revision Changes

  • UPDATED CONTENT:
  • New coverage has been added on alternative assessment, the use of portfolios in student assessment, the way research is conceived and conducted, cognitive/constructivist views of teaching and learning, self-regulated learning, scaffolding, how the brain works, revisions to Bloom’s Taxonomy, motivation and portfolio development for teachers. In addition, over 100 new references have been added. Finally, the coverage of technology has been expanded so that each chapter now includes an “Enhancing Teaching with Technology” box that focuses on the uses of technology in the classroom.

  • EXPANDED COVERAGE OF DIVERSITY:
  • The student diversity chapter has been rewritten and moved to Chapter 2: “Student Learning in Diverse Classrooms.” Coverage of student diversity is integrated into chapters, and highlighted by a special icon.

  • NEW AND EXPANDED FEATURES
  • : “Interactive and Applied Learning” lists the media resources available for the student on the Interactive Student CD-ROM, and the PowerWeb article and newsfeed topics related to the chapter on the Online Learning Center. “INTASC Considering Standards” links the content of the chapter to the INTASC standards. “Check, Extend, Explore” is an expansion of the “Check for Understanding” feature and now includes questions to aid students in confirming understanding of content, reflection questions, and Web links related to the section content. The “Chapter Review” feature at the end of the chapter reminds students of the study guide materials available.

  • PORTFOLIO RESOURCES:
  • The text now starts with a “Your Portfolio” section that provides an introduction to portfolios and lists the text’s portfolio resources. The new chapter-ending “Portfolio and Field Experience Activities” feature lists the activities related to the chapter located in the accompanying “Guide to Field Experiences and Portfolio Development.” Additionally, a portfolio Framework for the text has been created in the electronic portfolio tool FolioLive.

  • INTERACTIVE STUDENT CD-ROM WITH CASE EXERCISES AND PRACTICE TASKS:
  • The Interactive Student CD-ROM now includes comprehensive Case Exercises and Practice Tasks for each of the teaching models. For each model, students are provided resources (sample class information, video clips, etc.) and then are given tasks related to planning for and delivering lessons. The CD-ROM also includes “Teachers on Teaching” – audio clips of in-service teachers discussing related topics, and a student study guide.
