Back matter  Typically contains appendices and an index.
Expand (subdocument)  When Word replaces a link in the master document with the text from the subdocument.
Front matter  The first several pages containing a title page, table of contents, preface, acknowledgments, and so on.
Index  Lists the words and phrases that occur in a document along with the page numbers on which they appear.
Master document  A file containing links to individual files that make up a larger document.
Merge (subdocuments)  Combining into one document two adjacent subdocuments.
Promote (heading)  Reformat the text to a higher level heading (lower number).
Split  Dividing a subdocument into two subdocuments.
Style reference  A field (named StyleRef) that is formatted with a style and that is inserted in the document where a special style reference field code appears.
Subdocument  A file which is part of the master document.
Subentry  A secondary topic you use to narrow the search of a specific topic.
Table of contents  Lists the important headings that appear in your document and the pages on which they appear.
