  • Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve
This site, from the National Park Service, provides information on this living laboratory for observing the ebb and flow of glaciers, and a chance to study life as it returns in the wake of retreating ice.

Biodiversity

  • Biodiversity and Your Food
    (Added: Sat Jul 14 2001)
  • Endangered Species
Endangered and extinct species lists from around the world. Note the connection between overpopulation of the human species, and the demise of other species.

  • Natureserve
This is an interesting biodiversity database. The home page map makes it appear to be limited to the eastern U.S. but it actually covers much of the U.S. One can search for a particular species, or part of a name, and retrieve all sorts of data. Seems to be a good starting point for research projects and student papers.

  • What is Biodiversity
A short article by E.O. Wilson. "If we want a sustainable world, we're going to have to protect the biosphere, the rest of life.

  • World Conservation Monitoring Center
This is the 1994 IUCN Red List of Threatened Animals, which lists animals from around the world whose numbers are going down. To use this list, it's best to know the scientific name of the animal you're researching. But you can also look up endangered animals by country.
