Review the story that began the chapter. During the meeting one member asked the loud neighbor not to use the phrase "Hispanic gang bangers." How might the neighbor who used the phrase and called for the neighbors to arm themselves have stated his ideas in a less threatening manner, yet still showed how serious he was about his idea?

Computer-Mediated Microexpressions

The face is quick! Some expressions last a mere 200 milliseconds and your eye blinks are over in less time. A net conference camera connected to a good Internet connection can transmit 24 frames every second. This can drop to 1 second or less during a bad connection. The consequence to group discussion is that many facial microexpressions are lost.⁶¹ What difference do you think this might make in a virtual group?
