To grasp the basic concepts of logic: valid, invalid, sound, unsound, strong, weak, cogent, and uncogent.

To understand the concept of argument form.

To be able to identify the forms of arguments, using capital letters to stand for component statements or terms.

To know the names of some commonly used argument forms (and to be able to identify these forms readily).

To be able to construct counterexamples to invalid argument forms.
