Each chapter closes with Critical Thinking Questions (listed below) as a review of chapter material that focuses on the role of the medical assistant.

1. A patient and her grown daughter meet with the physician in your medical office. She receives some bad news and is crying. The daughter is trying to comfort her. It is your job now to explain what will happen next in her care, including procedures and appointment schedules for some important tests in the hospital. How will you proceed?

2. You are measuring the vital signs of an overweight woman. She becomes visibly upset when you ask her to step on the scale. The office has many brochures with tips on promoting good health and exercise. How might you bring up the subject of proper diet and exercise?
