1. Look at the listings of chat rooms through a local Internet service provider. Choose one based on a category of identity that is important to you and participate in a few exchanges. What perceptions do you have of the other participants? Do you think that those who agree with you share characteristics such as age, race, and gender? Who do they think you are and are their perceptions accurate? Have you engaged in perception checks and are they useful?

2. Take a look at a website devoted to optical illusions, such as http://www.encyclozine.com/Illusion or http://www.ads-online.on.ca/illusion/directory.html. See if you can identify the use of figure and ground, size, or intensity. Do you see different images depending on your perspective? How easy is it for you to shift perspective?
