African Americans and Hispanics tend to score lower on a particular test, on average, than members of other groups. The lower scores are often due to a lack of prior relevant experience and job opportunities because of prejudice and discrimination. In order to adjust for this, the scores of African American and Hispanic applicants were compared only to a separate set of norms for African Americans and Hispanics.
