At a meeting of the Organization of News Ombudsmen, it was noted that many newspapers send out questionnaires to news subjects, asking them if they found the stories about themselves to be fair and accurate. These surveys, which Editor & Publisher magazine said can be traced to 1945 when the Minneapolis Star and Tribune instituted the practice, are used to bridge the credibility gap between news media and their audiences. Discuss whether you think these surveys are worth the effort to conduct them.
