Film director Quentin Tarantino is famous for his ingenious use of music in his films. Watch a few of his films and describe how the music works. Is the music diegetic or nondiegetic? In what way is the music integrated with the action of the film?

Watch several films that have been scored by the same composer (Howard Shore, Jerry Goldsmith, James Newton Howard). Can you detect a "style" of writing that is discernible from film to film, or does the music for each film seem different in character?

Watch a silent film (or mute the audio on a current film) and supply your own soundtrack, using various types of music (classical, new age, world music, or even another soundtrack). Which types of music seem to work best? How does each "soundtrack" alter your experience in watching the film?
