Here are suggested answers to the Definitions items in this chapter of the Online Learning Center website.

  1. Composition-oriented practices, in contrast to other writing, are distinct in that they involve activities requiring writers to define the rhetorical problem (decide on the nature and direction of their writing) and engage in various processes such as transcribing and reviewing.
  2. Reviewing as a process in writing involves revising and evaluating one’s writing. Reviewing may include reorganizing ideas, adding new points or sub-points, etc. It is sometimes quite methodical and other times it is more spontaneous.
  3. The decision-making approach to L2 writing involves helping guide L2 learners through the decision-filled process of writing by posing questions such as: Who is the intended audience? What information should (and should not) be included?, etc.
