  1. Go to www.google.com. Enter "barter AND countertrade" in the search window. Select and research the hyper-links provided. Give three examples of international countertrade in the last decade between NICs and the rest of the world. Explain the advantages for each country in each one of your examples.
  2. Among the structural occasions, gift-giving marks territorial passages, such as marriages, birth, housewarmings, and reunions. Select three e-tailers that market gifts for these structural occasions. Which of the three e-tailers you selected is the best and why? Which one has the greatest need for improvements and how would you recommend changes that would encourage you to register for one of your own structural occasions?
  3. Does acquisition and self-giving lead to happiness? Check out the World Data Base of Happiness at www.eur.nl/fsw/research/happiness/index.htm, maintained by Erasumus University in the Netherlands. Take a look at some of the national happiness scores. Compare scores between Traid, transitional, NIC and developing nations. What do these scores suggest about the relationship between consumer culture and happiness?
