Here are a few questions to test your understanding of the material. Don't forget to read the notes section which explains why the correct answers are the correct ones

Coercion should never be used to manage change in organizations. Is this statement true or false?

The first question is for those who think OB is just common sense. Well, this is the last chapter in the text; do you think? Coercion is bad isn't it? Well, yes it usually is, but what if all the other five strategies have failed, and it is absolutely necessary to implement change? Oh, and look at that blanket statement in the question. That's a sure tip-off every time. The answer is false.

Action research takes the view that organizational change is all about bringing about real change, not testing theory. Is this statement true or false?

<a onClick="window.open('/olcweb/cgi/pluginpop.cgi?it=jpg::::/sites/dl/free/1259030539/932899/ch15_01.JPG','popWin', 'width=174,height=115,resizable,scrollbars');" href="#"><img valign="absmiddle" height="16" width="16" border="0" src="/olcweb/styles/shared/linkicons/image.gif"> (9.0K)</a>

Let's move on to question two. As is sometimes the case with these types of questions, one part is mostly true, but one part of it makes the entire statement false. Surely, any of the three approaches discussed in the chapter share the ultimate goal of real change. It's just that each approach goes about it differently. In the case of action research, a combination approach is used which includes testing. The answer is false.

The force fields analysis model includes all of the following EXCEPT:

<a onClick="window.open('/olcweb/cgi/pluginpop.cgi?it=jpg::::/sites/dl/free/1259030539/932899/ch15_02.JPG','popWin', 'width=238,height=171,resizable,scrollbars');" href="#"><img valign="absmiddle" height="16" width="16" border="0" src="/olcweb/styles/shared/linkicons/image.gif"> (6.0K)</a>

The third question is testing your understanding of the force field model. All of the following are elements of the model: driving forces, restraining forces, unfreezing, and refreezing. That leaves out process forces. Therefore, the correct response is 'A'.
