Supplements

The supplements available with the new fourth edition of Life are unparalleled in their depth and breadth. Learn more about these outstanding multimedia support tools and printed supplements:

  • McGraw-Hill's exclusive web-authoring software, PageOut. More than 16,000 professors have chosen PageOut to create their own course websites. And for good reason: PageOut offers powerful features and is incredibly easy to use. Your website can link directly to content, exercises, quizzing, and animations from Life. And best of all, the PageOut service is free for instructors who use Life. And students don't need to bother with any special tokens or fees to access your PageOut website.

  • If your school offers general biology courses online, you'll be glad to know that we can deliver the content from Life in a form compatible with your software. We have cartridges available for Web CT, Top Class, and BlackBoard.

  • A key multimedia tool is the Online Learning Center. This is an extensive array of learning and teaching tools for both you and your students, available online. Included is access to the new Essential Study Partner 2.0 that provides animations to help clarify difficult concepts, interactive exercises, and a full glossary. The Online Learning Center also includes numerous items that are either directly tied to the text or are correlated by page numbers. The Student Study Guide, Flash Cards, Chapter Quizzes and Biology Case Studies are but a few of the supplements made available. Also on this online resource resides a free Student Tutorial Service. This web-based "homework hotline" features 24-hour response time on weekdays for your students needing help with textbook materials.

  • A Course Integration Guide is also accessible on the Online Learning Center. This guide integrates the many supplements into your course. We know it's time-consuming to correlate all the different supplements for every chapter of the book. So, we've done the work for you!

  • BioCourse.com is new and exclusively from McGraw-Hill. This is the premier website for anyone teaching or studying the life sciences. Here you'll find course success materials, current news and readings, lab information, simulations, animations, and journal search options.

  • The Visual Resource Library contains more than 1500 art files taken directly from the text and provides them in an easy-to-use format on CD-ROM. This presentation CD-ROM includes every photograph and illustration from the text! In addition, 400 of these files are also provided unlabeled for quizzing. With this interactive format, you have the visual tools to create your own PowerPoint presentations.

  • If you don't have time to prepare your own lecture tools, you can take advantage of McGraw-Hill's professional Lecture PowerPoints -- complete with lecture outlines and illustrations.

  • We know that some professors want to be able to manipulate illustrations for classroom presentations. We're the first publisher to develop art that will allow you to do just that! Our new vectorized art files -- which consist of key figures from the text --allow you to adapt figures to meet your specific lecture needs. These electronic files are available on CD-ROM.

  • The Life Science Animations two CD-ROM set provides more than 200 animations of complex biological concepts. Perfect for classroom presentation, these animations will help your students better understand processes like meiosis, mitosis, photosynthesis and other difficult life science topics.

  • Interactive E-source is an electronic version of the text, provided on CD-ROM. This browser-based CD-ROM includes everything in the Life textbook, along with interactive videos and animations to illustrate key concepts. A powerful search engine is included so you can quickly find topics, and links to key general biology sites are also included.

  • Printed supplements include a set of 750 overhead transparencies. We've learned from you through research that transparencies are the most widely used presentation tool. Taking advantage of our new art program, we have increased our transparency set to include 750 images. Fifty of these images are unlabeled for quizzing, and 700 include larger, bolder print for easier reading -- no matter how large your lecture hall. These vibrant color images are an outstanding way for you to supplement your lectures.

  • The student study guide, by Sandy Latourelle of SUNY Plattsburgh, and the instructor's manual with test item file by Bruce Parker, have both been completely revised from the last edition. Both authors used their wealth of classroom experience to create tools that are truly useful for students and instructors. You can see a sample unit of both supplements by clicking on the links below.

  • For students who need extra study aids, keep in mind these additional, inexpensive supplements: Basic Chemistry for Biology, How to Study Science, and Outlines Biology.

To tie all of these supplements together, we offer Course Solutions. Course Solutions is our way of helping you and your students. How? By providing a course consultant to integrate the text and media into your course, to fit your specific needs. We will correlate the Life text as well as the supplements package to your syllabus.
