Comparison and Contrast

Writing On- and Offline

1

Activity 1: "On This Day" (Compare and Contrast)

Directions: The New York Times online has a special learning section called "On This Day," which provides information about events that happened on the same date throughout history. Visit the site, then choose one of the historical events described and read the accompanying article (or do a little research elsewhere about the event). Write an essay comparing and contrasting the events of that day with today.

2

Activity 2: Shared Birthdays (Compare and Contrast)

Directions: Visit this "shared-birthday" site and pick a famous person who shares a birthday with you. Do a bit of research on the famous person, if necessary. Then, write an essay comparing and contrasting that person with you.
