Chapter Overview

This chapter describes the different approaches to classifying Gram-positive bacteria taken by the 1st and 2nd editions of Bergey's Manual and the three classes included in phylum Firmicutes: Mollicutes, Clostridia, and Bacilli. For each class, important genera are discussed.
