In Chapter 13, we develop a basic understanding of the following concepts related to linear amplification:
  1. Transistors as linear amplifiers
  2. dc and ac equivalent circuits
  3. Use of coupling and bypass capacitors and inductors to modify the dc and ac equivalent circuits
  4. The concept of small-signal voltages and currents
  5. Small-signal models for diodes and transistors
  6. Identification of common-emitter and common-source amplifiers
  7. Amplifier characteristics including voltage gain, input resistance, output resistance, and linear signal range
  8. Rule-of-thumb estimates for voltage gain of common-emitter and common-source amplifiers
  9. Improvement of our understanding of the use and differences between the ac small-signal analysis and transient analysis capabilities of SPICE
