Outlining the Speech

Internet Exercises

  1. Subject directories (as discussed in Chapter 6) are organized in outline form. Go to a subject directory and use its outline to find a Website on stargazing. Print the home page.
  2. Possible Strategy: Go to Internet Public Library's reference section (www.ipl.org/ref) and use its outline to go from a major category to the sub-subcategory of stargazing.

  3. Hypertext links in subject directories permit you to move from major heading to subheading to sub-subheading, and so on. Find a topic in a subject directory and drill down at least three layers. Write down the subtopics in order of appearance.
  4. Example: A researcher could go to StudyWeb (www.studyweb.com) and follow this sequence: "Criminal Justice" . "Crime Prevention & Enforcement" . "Identify Theft and Fraud" . "How to Prevent Identity Fraud."
