About the Authors

Dr. Jon M. Duff earned his PhD from The Ohio State University where his dissertation “Identification of Technical Illustrator Job Requirements” became seminal in a career that has spanned thirty years as an illustrator and educator. Jon (pronounced “yawn,” don’t ask him why, it was his parents’ decision) has experience as a technical illustrator in heavy equipment and nuclear industries and has taught technical illustration in colleges, universities, and corporate settings. He is uniquely qualified to integrate traditional technical illustration methods with modern digital tools. He is the author of seventeen texts in technical and engineering graphics and over forty articles. He currently teaches at Arizona State University East and lives on the edge of the desert with his wife Anita and their West Highland Terrier Argus.
Greg Maxson earned his Associates Degree in technical graphics from Purdue University in 1988, and has practiced technical illustration ever since. Greg has provided technical illustrations to large and small corporate and publishing clients throughout the United States. Some of his clients include Ryobi, Hyster, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Popular Science, The Family Handyman, Consumer Reports, VanDam Inc., Corvette Quarterly, and Log Home Living. His work can also be seen in the Illustrator WOW! books, the Artist’s & Graphic Designer’s Market, and in regular issues of SBS Digital Design. Greg also currently works as an illustrator at Precision Graphics and lives in Urbana, Illinois with his wife Wendy and their son Drake.
